To continue my adventure with spoiled cheese, I turned to Maytag Blue, an all-American cheese produced in caves in Iowa. It didn't look very special, and I found it at my local super market instead of the specialty shop where I usually get my cheese. That was cool. I had to dig for it a little too. It's nice to have to work a little for things, makes it more exciting.
I think blue cheeses have a tendency to be overly fruity, but Maytag is hardly fruity at all. It is also very salty. That may sound as if I didn't like it, but I did. I think it would be good crumbled on a salad or something. It's not really a nibbling cheese. Basicaly, it's not Stilton.
Apparently the Maytag name isn't a coincidence. the dairy is just down the street from the appliance factory. Cool, huh?
